Why book a family ski holiday in Les 2 Alpes

Bring your children on a ski holiday to Les Deux Alpes

Here's why we recommend Les 2 Alpes as a family destination.

Travelling anywhere with children can be challenging, and in a ski resort it can be doubly so with things like lift passes, equipment hire and ski lessons to arrange (never mind hats, gloves, snotty noses and the rest...!). Les 2 Alpes is a family-friendly resort that makes all these things as easy as possible.

Family accommodation

When looking at where to book, you'll find some hotels and apartments have connected rooms or suites that are great for families. And once you're here, you'll see the majority of the hotels and rental accommodation are close to the straight main street, so access with children, pushchairs, prams and luggage is easy. Plus for young children several hotels and holiday companies offer childcare packages, if you would like some time to ski or relax without the children. There are also private nannies and a resort-run crèche: the 'Bonhomme de Neige'.

Towns & Villages in Les 2 Alpes

The resort itself has worked hard to become a part of the officially recognised ‘Famille Plus’ scheme, bestowed only on those resorts and destinations that go out of their way to cater to families and children. They provide activities, services, entertainment and prices throughout the resort favourable to those holidaying with kids in tow.

The town sits on a high plateau with only one road in, so there is no through traffic and the main street is flat with wide pavements, meaning that getting about with kids or a pushchair is not difficult. And the resort runs a free shuttle service, running on two routes (green and red) every 20 and 30 minutes respectively from 08:30 until 20:00 daily.

Ski Hire in Les 2 Alpes

The pistes here are good for families as the layout means that you cannot end up in a different valley if you get lost, and with older kids it's easy to set boundaries and let them ski independently in an area. For small children and first-timers, there is a wide selection of beginner slopes spread along the length of the town at resort level. The easy slopes around Les Crêtes are ideal for families with two long green runs and a blue all leading back to the same spot. To make valuable savings make sure you take advantage of the family lift pass rates when you buy your passes.

As a resort popular with families you are guaranteed an excellent range of skis and snowboards for all ages of children in the rental shops throughout the resort. The ski techs will help you all find what you need from beginner skis up to the top of the range.

Ski Schools in Les 2 Alpes

The snowpark at the La Toura area is a great place for families. Don’t be put off by the big jumps, there are plenty of kid-friendly (and grown-up-friendly) features as well. The Family-Cross is a fun and easy skier-cross course to race your children down and there are some kid-size jumps and boxes to have a go at on the way. A number of the ski lifts are open to pedestrians, so non-skiers can meet the skiers for lunch and beginners can see the views at the glacier without having to ski back down. And there are a couple of dedicated sledging slopes at the foot of the pistes where you can all play in the snow.

The ski schools in Les 2 Alpes are truly brilliant, there are several to choose from, with tuition available for three or four-year-olds and older.

Les Deux Alpes is very family-friendly, and during school holidays the main square fills up with entertainment, from meeting Santa at Christmas to activity programmes at Easter. Other activities around the town include a mini-skidoo circuit for five to 10-year-olds (by the Lutins lift), horse-drawn sledge rides, husky sledding, ten-pin bowling below the Place de Venosc, a cinema (with some films shown in English ) and a games arcade.

Open all winter, the outdoor swimming pool and ice rink are included on your lift pass (skate hire is extra). Once a week the ice rink is taken over by ‘Ice Gliders’ - dodgems on ice - for one or two people.
