At lunchtimes, most restaurants will offer a well-priced 'Plat du Jour' (dish of the day), normally consisting of locally-sourced meat, potatoes and a salad or seasonal vegetables.

Breakfast & Brunch

For a full English or a bacon sandwich, head to the Spot (open from 11.30am) or the Red Frog (open from 10am) if you are at the Venosc end of town. Nearer the resort centre, try Le Saloon after 10am or grab a coffee in the Pub Windsor and order breakfast from the Porte d’à Côté next door.

If you prefer an earlier start and like coffee and croissants for your breakfast, try an eat-in bakery like the Chat Gourmand or Du Blé … au Pain.

Cafes & Bakeries

As in any French town you are never far from a bakery. Near the Place de Venosc you have the  Paneton and the large Du Blé … au Pain right opposite each other. Towards the town centre the Chat Gormand has fantastic cakes while the Fournil des 2 Alpes does the best sandwiches in town. At the Mont de Lans end of the resort you have the Moulin des Alpes next to Tribeca for your morning baguette.

Chocolate lovers should not miss the Marjolaine Chocolatier with its upstairs tea room, and a chocolate fountain in the window.

Child-friendly Restaurants

Most, if not all of the restaurants in Les Deux Alpes are child friendly, especially if you let them know in advance. Evening meals are normally served from 7pm, and the restaurants are quieter at this time than later on. Smithies serve food from 6pm so is a good choice for younger children.

French Restaurants

La Grange, located opposite the lift pass office in the main square, is a traditional French restaurant offering fondue and raclette as their specialities. Other dishes include steaks, snails and pasta dishes. La Porte d’à Côté opposite Marché U is well worth a look as well, but do book ahead as it is very popular. Le Trappeur is a popular and highly rated restaurant across the road from Carrefour supermarket. Expect traditional mountain food and friendly service.

Head to Crêpes a Go Go to sample a French delicacy that we Brits only seem to get round to making once a year. Tuck into a tasty pancake on the sunny terrace or take refuge in the cosy ‘olde worlde’ bar with a choice of beers on tap.

Le Cellier, near the Place de Venosc specialises in meats grilled on an open wood fire in the middle of the restaurant. Just next door, Doumé’s serves a quirky variety of local and French dishes including a wild boar stew and a charcoal heated raclette, as well as pizzas from their wood fired oven. The nearby Grain du Sel has a varied menu and is a good place to try steak tartare (raw minced steak with egg, onion, herbs and spices) if you are feeling brave.

Italian & Pizza Restaurants

With Les Deux Alpes seeing a lot of Italian visitors, you don’t have to look far to find a good pizza.

At the beginning of the town, beside the Information Point, Tribeca offers an extensive pizza menu, all cooked in their wood fired pizza oven, as well as steaks, fondues and local specialties. On the main street, the Vetrata specialises in pizza, pasta and Italian dishes. Further along, Chez Angelo is probably the smallest restaurant in Les Deux Alpes, with only one table inside and a couple on the pavement. It is therefore most popular for take-away pizzas! Despite it's size, it still manages to offer a wide range of real Italian dishes.

On the Place de Venosc, Il Caminetta is a great little Italian restaurant tucked into a corner. The service is always friendly and their home-made fresh pasta is not to be missed.

Many of the local French restaurants also do good pizza and pasta, and there are some good pizza takeaways mentioned below in the takeaway section.

Michelin-Starred Restaurants

Les 2 Alpes has one Michelin starred restaurant. Located opposite the bowling alley at the Venosc end of town, Le P’tit Polyte at Chalet Mounier is a truly unique restaurant. There is an à la carte menu, but a set menu (with 5, 7 or even 9 courses) is a must for the full experience. Although expensive, Le P'tit Polyte is a perfect place for a treat. In the summer you are welcome to dine on the terrace or beside the pool. Booking at the start of the week is essential.

Le Raisin d'Ours on Avenue de la Muzelle is under new management for the 2017/18 season and we await their new menu. L’Entracte on the Rue Des Vikings holds the Michelin Bib Gourmand for its excellent modern French cuisine. Le Diable au Coeur at the summit of the Diable ski lift is recommended by the Michelin reviewers for food that they describe as "deliciously and carefully prepared, it stylishly combines tradition and regional specialities" - a nice change to the usual baguette and chips on the mountain!

Pubs & Gastropubs

Smithy's Tavern is one of the most popular bar-restaurants in town with large wooden tables and comfy alcoves that are ideal for families or group outings. Above the bar is the char-grill restaurant, which is renowned for serving up large portions. The menu is a mix of pub food and tex-mex with decent vegetarian and children’s options.

A relative newcomer to the resort, The Spot has established itself as a lively bar and restaurant, popular with locals and visitors alike. A unique feature is the ‘build your own burger’ menu, with the best burger design of the week winning a free meal. Steaks, fish, tapas, pizza and vegetarian meals complete the menu.

Seafood Restaurants

Casa Nostra and La Porte d’à Côté usually have some great fish choices on their specials boards, while up on the slopes the Bergerie La Kanata (found at the top of the Cote lift on the Vallee Blanche side) does a good moules-frites (mussels and chips) and beer deal. The Spot has lobster, salon and prawns on the menu too and is good value for money.

Spanish & Mexican Restaurants

Le Saloon, next to the main lift pass office, offers a good selection of tex-mex food as well as pub staples like pies, burgers and English breakfasts. The enormous barbecue ribs should satisfy the biggest appetite. A selection of craft beers on tap from their new microbrewery in Bourg d’Oisans is an added bonus.

A few bars and restaurants offer tapas served at the bar, Spanish style. Most notable is Casa Nostra, a Corsican restaurant on Avenue de la Muzelle with around twenty different tapas dishes to mix and match at the bar as well as a sit down restaurant menu.

Sushi Restaurants

Tuesday night is sushi night in Casa Nostra. Advance booking is essential for this very popular evening. They still serve their regular menu of local and Corsican specialties as well as tapas in case anyone in your group is not a sushi fan.

Take-away Restaurants

There is a wide choice of takeaway joints, so here is a rundown of the highlights. A growing presence on the main street, Le Takeaway now has three nearby outlets offering pizzas, burgers, chips etc. Over on Rue des Vikings, Pizza Cyan is a favourite of the Italians, selling a selection of Italian fast foods alongside the pizza. Chalet Pizza across the road is always popular with French visitors and also sells great burgers. They will deliver to your door using a quad bike, as will Master Pizza at the other end of town. If you like to see a familiar high-street name, Subway opened a sandwich shop here last winter.

Vegetarian Restaurants

Most local restaurants will offer something for vegetarians but expect it to be cheese, cheese and more cheese! Cheese fondue, raclette, pizza and salads are all widely available but there might not be many other options. You will get a bigger choice of veggie friendly food in the more English restaurants – Smithies, Le Saloon and the Spot.
