Les Deux Alpes feels solid and properly wintry as the year comes to a close, with its high altitude terrain giving the resort a confident mid season feel. The glacier and upper slopes look well covered, and there is a noticeable contrast between the reliable conditions up high and the more variable feel lower down. The village is busy with New Year visitors, but on the mountain things feel steady and predictable, with the season so far shaping up as a good one for on piste skiing.
Snow and Weather Summary
Snow depths in Les Deux Alpes are currently sitting at around 40 to 70 cm at resort level, increasing to roughly 140 to 180 cm at altitude, including the glacier sector. There has been little fresh snowfall in recent days, so skiing conditions are largely based on an established base supported by regular grooming. Temperatures at village level have been hovering close to freezing during the day, with colder overnight lows helping refreeze the snow surface, while temperatures on the upper mountain remain well below zero throughout the day. Freezing levels have generally been low, often around 900 to 1,300 m, which is favourable for snow preservation across most of the ski area. Winds have been mostly light to moderate, with occasional stronger gusts higher up on the glacier, but overall lift operations have remained stable. On the pistes, conditions are firm and grippy first thing, softening slightly on sunnier slopes by late morning, while higher altitude and north facing runs keep a colder, chalky feel well into the afternoon. Lower runs toward the village can feel harder packed later in the day, especially on busy homeward routes.
