1. Ice skating rink

Location
Les Deux Alpes

Right in the heart of Les Deux Alpes, the open-air ice rink offers one of those classic mountain moments you never really grow out of. You’ll find the entrance beside the Saga Centre amusement arcade on Rue des Sagnes, making it an easy stop whether you’re heading out for a stroll, meeting friends or keeping the kids entertained.

It’s a simple pleasure, but absolutely iconic: gliding across the ice under the open sky, surrounded by mountain views and the buzz of the resort. It’s a brilliant activity for families, groups of friends or couples looking for something a little different. Whatever your age or skating ability, it’s the sort of outing that always brings a grin.

Opening times vary during school holidays, so it’s worth checking the schedule before you head over. Skates are available to hire on site, and admission can be combined with rental to keep things hassle-free. You can also hire helmets and fun on-ice games to keep younger skaters confident and entertained.

Whether you’re chasing a bit of nostalgia or trying something new, the Les Deux Alpes ice rink is a must-do winter treat.

2. Ice cave

Location
Les Deux Alpes

Walk through a two-hundred-metre gallery to reach a magical network of rooms carved twenty metres below the surface of the snow, deep inside the glacier.

The ice caves in Les Deux Alpes offer a true journey back to the ice age, with ethereal sculptures of dinosaurs and an impressive mammoth measuring six metres long and ten metres wide, all hewn directly from the Roche-Mantel glacier. Clever lighting adds to the atmosphere, creating a strange and captivating experience as you wander through the frozen world. Dug entirely by hand with nothing more than ice picks, the cave network consists of eight grottos, three rooms and the long entrance gallery, and takes around five months to complete each year.

Visit the website or ask at the tourist office for this season’s prices and opening times. The caves generally open in line with the lift schedule. Tickets are available at the ski pass offices, online, and at the tourist office.
