High altitude refuge in one of the most stunning sites of the Ecrins National Park
Perched at 3,450m above the Romanche valley, this is one of the most extraordinary sites of the Oisans, near the north side of the Meije.
This warm and rustic refuge was first built in 1913, and then rebuilt in 2014 designed to exist in harmony with its remote mountain environment.
Sleeping 30 people, this is a fairly large refuge and offers great access to some fantastic mountains in the area, making it an excellent base for climbers and mountaineers.
The refuge is staffed from March to early-May and from early-June to September, depending on weather conditions. The refuge is open but unstaffed during winter, where there will be duvets available but no water or gas.

You’ll find cobbled streets, artisan shops and a relaxed atmosphere far from the resort’s hustle and bustle. Most places to stay are self-catered chalets and apartments, with neighbouring hamlets offering more choice if you have a car. It’s an ideal spot for a quiet stay without sacrificing slope access.

In the summer, snow camps and freestyle ski competitions take place on the glacier, while the legendary mountain bike race, the Mountain of Hell, takes place at the end of June.
