Snow Report, 16 March 2026

Imprint
By Nye Erskine, Updated

Les Deux Alpes moves into the middle of March with the mountain still looking impressively wintry, especially across the high glacier terrain that defines the resort. The slopes rising above the village remain well covered and the wide open pistes across the upper mountain continue to hold a strong base. With longer days and more sunshine appearing the atmosphere feels increasingly spring like, but the skiing conditions remain reliable thanks to the resort’s high altitude.

Snow and Weather Summary

Current snow depths are around 80 to 95 cm at resort level around 1650 metres, with between 200 and 260 cm reported on the upper slopes above 2600 metres and the glacier reaching 3400 metres. The glacier sector continues to hold the deepest and most dependable snowpack across the ski area. Around 5 cm of fresh snow has fallen across the upper mountain recently which has helped refresh the surface on exposed slopes.

Temperatures have ranged from minus 10 to minus 4 degrees on the glacier and highest slopes and between minus 1 and plus 6 degrees in the village depending on sunshine. The freezing level has generally been moving between 2000 and 2400 metres during the day but drops overnight which allows the pistes to refreeze and maintain good quality after grooming. Winds have occasionally been moderate on the upper glacier lifts but overall conditions across the ski area have remained stable.

On piste, the best conditions are found above 2200 metres where the snow remains firm through the morning and early afternoon. The glacier sector and the upper slopes above La Fée offer the most consistent skiing throughout the day. Lower runs back towards the resort ski best earlier in the day before softening slightly during sunnier afternoons.

Outlook & What’s On

The forecast for the coming days suggests a mixture of sunshine and cloud with temperatures gradually increasing as the week progresses. There remains a chance of light snowfall on the highest slopes later in the week, although any accumulations are expected to be limited. Overnight cooling should continue to help maintain the quality of the snowpack across the upper mountain.

Les Deux Alpes continues to host a lively programme of events through March including live music, mountain activities and après ski gatherings across the resort centre. With the main holiday weeks now behind us the slopes feel a little quieter, making it a great time to explore the full ski area.

Weather outlook as of: 16 March 2026. As I am sure you are aware, accurately forecasting weather more than two or three days ahead in the mountains is notoriously tricky. If there is a significant change we will update this section before the next full weekly snow report.

Snow Takeaway

Les Deux Alpes is skiing best above 2200 metres where the snowpack remains deepest and most reliable, particularly across the glacier sector. Early morning runs on lower slopes offer the most consistent conditions before any afternoon softening. With its very high altitude terrain still holding a strong base, the resort continues to deliver dependable spring skiing.
