Les Deux Alpes has settled into a proper February rhythm this week. The village is busy with half term visitors, but up on the glacier and across the main mountain there is still a sense of space once you spread out. The high altitude terrain is holding its cover well and the north facing slopes above resort are looking solid and wintry. With fresh snow already this week and a more significant system forecast to arrive shortly, conditions are poised to improve further.
Snow and Weather Summary
Current snow depths are around 95 cm at resort level at 1650 metres, rising to approximately 170 cm on the upper mountain and close to 200 cm on the glacier at 3200 to 3400 metres. Over the past seven days around 10 to 15 cm of new snow has fallen above 1800 metres, giving a welcome refresh to well used pistes and improving grip on steeper sections. Lower slopes back to resort have seen some softer patches during milder afternoons but remain well covered thanks to the maintained base.
Temperatures at resort level have ranged between minus 2 and plus 3 degrees during the day, dropping to around minus 5 overnight. On the glacier, daytime temperatures have stayed colder, typically between minus 10 and minus 6 degrees. The freezing level has fluctuated between 1600 and 2000 metres during brighter spells, lowering again overnight. Winds have been light to moderate, stronger at times on the glacier but without major disruption to lift operations.
Forecast charts are indicating a more substantial snow event from late Friday into the weekend. Current projections suggest 30 to 50 cm of fresh snow above 2000 metres, with 20 to 35 cm likely around resort level if temperatures remain favourable. This expected snow dump should significantly improve surface quality across the whole ski area, particularly on the lower mountain where a top up will be beneficial.
