Well, what a weekend we have had! High winds, sunshine, fog, snow and rain… just about every weather combination you can imagine!
The “eclairesie” of 16:00 or "the 16:00 clearing" is becoming a phenomenon here in Les Deux Alpes. Every day, however bad the weather seems, at 16:00 it clears up just enough to allow one last fun descent of the day. Yesterday, “l’éclaircie de 4h” arrived bang on time!
On Thursday night we received weather warnings for heavy snow. The roads would be accessible only for cars equipped for winter: 4x4, snow tyres and snow chains. The snow was forecast to arrive on Saturday and Sunday, just in time for transfer day. It did snow on Thursday night and Friday was magical with 20cm of fresh on top of a good base. Fun was had by all both on and off the piste! I’d been hearing people talking about l’éclaircie de 16:00 and had noticed it from the slopes, but this time I could really benefit from it. We had a wonderful last run down the West Face of La Fee, whooping for joy as our skis floated through the lovely snow and we could see what was ahead of us.
