Ski Area Overview
Les Deux Alpes sits opposite Alpe d’Huez in the Vallée Blanche, built on the Alpine pastures of l’Alpe de Mont de Lans and l’Alpe de Vénosc. The resort features the underground Dôme Express funicular and the 3S Jandri Express, the world’s fastest gondola, only opened in 2024. With summer glacier skiing, it’s an “upside-down” resort, offering easier slopes at the top and steeper, more challenging runs lower down.
The seven sectors to know about are:
The glacier
The highest domain in Europe with breathtaking 360° views. The runs from up here start at 3,600m going down to 3,200m, and they are perfect for all levels of skier. You can also visit the ice cave and take a selfie on the skywalk.
Toura
A snowpark located at 2,400m, accessible to all levels and the place to head for freestylers of all ages.
La Fée
This freeride zone sits at 2,400m and is linked to the glacier with the brand new eight-seater Pierre Grosse gondola.
Le Diable
Red and black runs at 2,400m, these runs are known as the 'big slopes' amongst the locals.
Vallée Blanche
Not suitable for beginner skiers, this east-facing area has a brand new 10-seater gondola, enjoys plenty of morning sunshine plus it has a snowshoe route.
Les Crêtes
Loved by all, you'll find some great blue runs here if you're a beginner, and it's easily accessible with numerous lifts up and down, plus there's a magic carpet.
Resort
The 'bottom of the slopes', aka 'snow front', has had a recent redesign to make it even easier for beginners to ski here and there's a brand new magic carpet and five free button lifts.
Also you can go night-skiing on the Piste des Lutins for free every evening.

Linked Ski Areas
Les Deux Alpes is well connected to nearby resorts, offering access to varied skiing experiences. Advanced skiers can reach the legendary off-piste terrain of La Grave via the Girose Glacier, while a new gondola link to Alpe d’Huez is planned, set to create one of the largest ski areas in the French Alps. The resort also connects to the charming villages of Venosc and Mont-de-Lans, blending high-altitude adventure with traditional Alpine charm.
Advanced areas in Les Deux Alpes

Les Deux Alpes offers excellent terrain for advanced skiers and snowboarders, with a great mix of challenging red and black runs across its high-altitude slopes and glacier areas. Top picks include the steep black runs from the Bellecombes chair, Le Super Diable, La Valentin, and La Fée. The west-facing frontside provides more advanced runs, along with off-piste, tree-lined routes ideal for days with low visibility. With its variety and altitude, Les Deux Alpes guarantees plenty of challenges for experienced riders.
Beginner areas in Les Deux Alpes
Les Deux Alpes is ideal for beginners, with plenty of gentle blue runs that make it easy to explore the whole ski area. The highlight is the Jandri run, a 16km blue that starts at 3,200m and descends to the resort at 1,650m, letting novices ski from glacier to village. Dedicated beginner zones feature five free lifts - Petit Bosquet, Limaçon, Coolidge 1 and 2, and Vikings - with the covered Viking carpet keeping learners warm and comfortable as they head back up the slope.
Snowparks in Les Deux Alpes

Les Deux Alpes boasts one of France’s top five snowparks, shaped by expert teams to world-class standards. Located in the Toura area at 2,600m, this freestyle paradise features themed zones for different ability levels: the challenging Easy Park, Slopestyle and Big Air areas, and the more accessible Park d’Envers. A Boardercross course runs alongside the park, while the Cool Zone offers a relaxed space with picnic tables - perfect for watching the action or enjoying lunch in the sun.
Off-piste areas in Les Deux Alpes
Les Deux Alpes offers extensive advanced and off-piste terrain, with plentiful freeriding opportunities, especially on the northern side, similar in aspect to nearby La Grave. Top picks include the Grand Couloir Chutes - three steep runs from the Bellecombes chair - Clot de Chalance, an open but avalanche-prone bowl accessed via the Signal lift, and La Dôme Glacier, a 400m vertical descent from 3,400m.
L’Ecorchoir and Malaprisure offer over 2km of skiable vertical in favourable conditions. Just 15 minutes from the resort, La Grave provides an entirely off-piste experience, but is unforgiving and requires a mountain guide due to crevasse and avalanche risks. Classic runs from the téléphérique also provide endless powder options. Always check avalanche safety before venturing off-piste.
Bad Weather areas in Les Deux Alpes

In whiteout conditions at Les Deux Alpes, high, open pistes can make orientation difficult as slope and sky blend together. Tree-lined runs usually help, but the resort’s high altitude means trees are scarce. On very poor days, it’s best to head to the sports centre, a pub, or simply rest indoors.
