What's New in Les Deux Alpes This Winter?

There are some interesting improvements to discover across Les Deux Alpes this winter, with a particular focus on beginner facilities, new mountain experiences and the continued development of the ski area.

One of the main projects for winter 2026/27 is the replacement of the Champamé drag lift on the lower slopes. The new installation is designed to improve comfort and make it easier for beginners and families to move around the learning area, while helping to reduce congestion on the busy snow front.

Visitors will also benefit from improvements introduced during the previous winter. Beginner skiing is now available higher up the mountain, with dedicated learning areas at 2,100 and 2,600 metres. This gives newer skiers more opportunities to enjoy the mountains at altitude, rather than relying entirely on the slopes around the village.

Another addition from 2026 is La Balade du Jandri, a high-altitude slow-ski experience between 2,800 and 3,200 metres. Following a blue run alongside the Jandri lift, the route offers a more relaxed way to enjoy the mountain scenery, with plenty of opportunities to take in the views.

Freestyle enthusiasts can also discover the 2 Alpes Airpark, a training area introduced in 2026 near the Jandri. Designed for advanced riders, it features two jumps with synthetic approaches and a large airbag landing area.

Away from the pistes, the resort's newer swimming and wellness complex provides another option for visitors looking to relax after a day on the mountain.

The improvements come as Les Deux Alpes celebrates its 80th anniversary, marking eight decades since the first ski lift began operating in December 1946. It's a fitting opportunity to reflect on how the resort has developed from a small Alpine skiing destination into one of France's best-known high-altitude ski areas.

Outlook & What's On

The first few weeks of December promise a lively start to the winter, with skiing already scheduled to be underway and several major events approaching. The weather will remain an important factor in determining how much terrain is available, particularly on the lower slopes.

One of the biggest highlights is the return of Rise Festival, scheduled for 5 to 12 December. The international ski and music festival brings a week of skiing, snowboarding and live performances to Les Deux Alpes, with electronic music acts and entertainment throughout the resort. The event is celebrating its 12th edition this winter and is expected to attract visitors from across Europe.

December also marks the resort's 80th anniversary. The milestone celebrates the opening of the first ski lift in 1946 and the generations of skiers, snowboarders and mountain enthusiasts who have helped shape Les Deux Alpes into the resort it is today.

The festive season will bring more entertainment to the village. On Thursday 24 December, the traditional Ski Show is scheduled for 18:30 on the Lutins piste, featuring demonstrations by ski instructors, a torchlit descent, fireworks and seasonal refreshments.

Another Ski Show is planned for New Year's Eve, while Magic Plaza on Tuesday 29 December will bring street performances and entertainment to the Place des 2 Alpes between 18:00 and 19:30.

Getting Ready for the Ski Season

If you're heading to Les Deux Alpes in the coming weeks, now is a good time to get the final details of your trip organised. Whether it's arranging airport transfers, booking ski hire and lessons, or reserving a table at your favourite mountain restaurant, a little preparation can make those first days on the slopes much easier.

With skiing available at elevations ranging from the village to the high-altitude glacier sector, it's worth checking where the best conditions and open pistes are before setting off each morning.

If you're travelling during Rise Festival or the busy Christmas and New Year period, arranging accommodation, equipment hire and restaurant bookings in advance is particularly sensible.

The new winter season has arrived in Les Deux Alpes, with the ski area scheduled to have opened on 28 November and a busy December calendar ahead. The resort's 80th anniversary, improvements to beginner facilities and the return of Rise Festival give visitors plenty to look forward to both on and off the slopes.
