Do something a little different and ride the Vallée Blanche sector on the other side of Les 2 Alpes. Lot’s of people never ski this area which usually means it’s nice and quiet over there.
Les Deux Alpes is one of the Alps most bustling summer resorts. It’s home to Europe’s largest glacier which hosts training pistes for national teams all around the world, it has hundreds of kilometres of walking and mountain biking trails and a huge range of summer activities including volleyball, tennis, a luge, a swimming pool, archery, golf, mini golf and an avalanche simulator!
If you’re after a shorter less committing bike ride than the infamous 21 bends up to Alpe D’Huez, the Col D’Ornon is a great option from the same starting point. The ride is easily done in less than two hours and there are certainly no compromises on the scenery!
After a day on the hill there is still plenty to do in Les Deux Alpes.
Les 2 Alpes in summer is a veritable hot bed of things to do. I'm here for a few days trying out some of the things you can do on your summer visit here, and today it was the turn of the Via Ferrata.
Tour de France time rolls around, and our roads are once again infested with loonies in lycra. Go Wiggo!
This weekend saw Les Deux Alpes taken over by cyclists, with not only the Granfondo Les Deux Alpes but also the Belgian organised Climbing for Life event taking place in the resort.
And it’s official – summer has finally arrived, with the traditional wall to wall sunshine and temperatures allowing hitherto deep-frozen ticket sales executives actually to shed the official jacket for most of the day. Pity there’s less than two weeks of the season left, but that’s all the more reason to get out there and make the best of it. Though I’d appreciate it if you could all spread yourselves around the available ticket offices a bit – I barely had time to so much as look at the crossword today, outrageous.
For the second part of my summer training I moved from Val D’Isere to Les Deux Alpes. The glacier here had surprisingly good snow conditions considering the recent hot temperatures and with the snow freezing overnight I managed to do five great days of training.
The Mountain of Hell MTB race is now in its 17th year and the 2016 edition saw 700 mountain bikers take part from no less than 18 different countries. For the first time this year there was a children's race with 23 competitors taking part, and 16 women also joined the ranks - I was one of them.
If you've got a head for heights and want to enjoy views of Les 2 Alpes that you don't normally get, then taking a flight on a tandem parapente should be on your 'must do' list whilst you're here - either in summer or winter.
Having gone for the easiest of peasy via ferrata routes last week, this time we opted for scaring ourselves to death on something which at first glance looks like a sheer unscalable cliff. And probably would indeed be a sheer unscalable cliff had someone not nailed a load of bars and cables to it.
Well, as the chill wind of time blows up the kilt of destiny, and the short-sighted octopus of fate attempts to mount the bagpipes of eternity, I see we're coming to the end of the season. Cheers Humphrey.
Mountain biking in Les 2 Alpes cover a wide variety of terrain, from shale like rocks, to bike park berms, fire roads and everything in between.
So the sun is out, temperatures are soaring and high season is just around the corner, which means it must be time to go camping. It’s cheap, it’s outdoors and you can do it almost anywhere, what’s not to like? All right, it happens to be chucking with rain on this particular morning, but it’s not going to do that all holiday is it?
Les Deux Alpes’ ice rink is bang in the middle of the resort, between the main square and the foot of the pistes, so there is no excuse not to have a go while you are here.
If you are lucky enough to be in Les Deux Alpes this coming Valentine's Day, you might be wondering where to go for a romantic evening out. Here are a few of the best choices, and a couple of alternative ideas too!
