Happy Independence Day! We may not have 4th July fireworks but we do have Crankworx!! The Crankworx Mountain Bike festival starts this Saturday in Les Deux Alpes and there's the Kumi Yama and 3VTT too.
The Crankworx Mountain Bike Festival enters it's second year in Les Deux Alpes. There will be races and competitions from the 6th - 14th July. You can find out more about the festival in our Les Deux Alpes Events Calendar and more about Mountain Biking in Les Deux Alpes on the MTB page.
Over the same weekend in 2Alpes there's the Kumi Yama ski and snowboard feestyle event on the Glacier 3200. Les Deux Alpes has one of the best summer parks in Europe and you can find out more about Glacier Skiing here on www.see2alpes.com.
For a more sedate mountain bike experience the 3VTT - the Trois Vallees mountain bike festival - takes place on Saturday and Sunday and you can find out more about that in our Events Calendar for Meribel.

Winter is coming. There is no denying it. Temperatures have dropped, days have become shorter and Christmas decorations are ALREADY in the supermarkets!
Alpe d'huez is, as ever, popular with cyclists wanting to tackle the legendary "21 bends" and Les Deux Alpes has unprecedented levels of snow on it's glacier.
It won't be long until we can start watching some of our favourite ski racers and national champions hurtling down the mountain again. Forget Ski Sunday, here's where you can come and watch some of the action live in resort:

Rod's been over to La Grave in today's snow report. The snow isn't too bad over there but there are a lot of crevasses still visible.
Conditions up on the glacier remain good, with the piste crews keeping the lower runs into resort in good condition. We could still do with some more snow though, so keep doing those snow dances!

The glacier has stayed closed today to high winds. There's been plenty of snow up top but rain down at resort level.

Conditions high up are still good, and with no fresh snow on the forecast the high altitude pistes are the place to be.
Great snow conditions across the 2 Alpes area, especially compared to other parts of the Alps, for example in Italy, where they have been making snow.
Lifts opened this weekend and conditions are good with around half of the lifts open. We could do with some more snow, which thankfully looks like it's due this week.
This new blue piste has been talked about for quite a while, and tonnes of digging work has been going on all winter. Take a look at the fly-through. The piste will be accessible from December 2015 with the official inauguration taking place on 13th January 2016.

Winter starts this weekend in London with the annual Ski and Snowboard Show. This year the show is back in its old venue of Earl's Court and, as usual, there is plenty to do. To help you make the most of the show we went ahead and came up with a list of our top five attractions for this year.
The best of the skiing this week will be in the morning, up on the glacier. The Valley Blanche area is still yet to fully open so we could do with some more snow for that to happen.

It was so cold in Les 2 Alpes this week that the glacier had to close. Temperatures of around -35 were recorded which meant that the lifts and workers couldn't operate up there.
As always at this time of year, timing your skiing is crucial to get the best of the conditions. Up on the glacier of course it's still winter snow, but lower down is starting to feel more springlike in the afternoons.

That's it after 7 years the Kumiyama event has been held for the last time in Les Deux Alpes... *sob* The weather's not been great recently, but thankfully over the course of the event riders managed to make it up to get all Japanese and throw down some amazing tricks.. take a look..

Kicking off on 24th October the event opens with 'Enjoy the Glacier' weekend with with snowboard tests, competitions, pro-riders, skateboarding, tattoo artists, rock concerts and DJs.

"Tropical" conditions in 2 Alpes this week!
This week has been pretty sunny, but worry not there is snow due at around 2,000 metres and another dump predicted in the middle of the week next week.
We have spring conditions on the lower slopes in L2A. The red run into resort has shut, but both of the black runs are still open. Snow cover on the Diable is thin, but the Valentine is fine; hard snow in the morning, with nice spring snow in the afternoon.
We have had a good dump of snow and the sun has come out which has given us some great days on the hill. Not all of the runs are open yet but they will be soon and I'll be back to tell you all about it.
Day one at the Les 2 Alpes Crankworx Festival and this video catches up with Sebastien Chovet who takes us through the days events which started with the Cannondale Dual Climb Qualifications and also training for the Giant Air DH, presented by Fox. Later on was the qualifications for the Dual Climb where Quentin Derbier is in first, Mick Hannah is in second and Jerome Clementz is in third.
The warm weather continues in Les Deux Alpes and Alpe d'Huez, while Bourg d'Oisans hosts the Saturday Market and the Autumn Fair.

The snow has been falling thick and fast in Les Deux Alpes this week and we have about a foot down in town and even more up on the hill. This has given us some great skiing conditions when the sun comes out but caution needs to be exercised in the off piste as not all of the area has been secured.

Back for it's tenth year the Mondial du VTT was as big as ever. Cross-country, downhill and freestyle mountain bikers enjoyed the four day festival in Les Deux Alpes where manufacturers showed off their latest kit and races were open to all levels and abilities.

The Tour de France is the most watched sporting event in the world. A legendary and almost mythical test of human endurance and athletic ability it has given us house hold names like Lance Armstrong and Chris Boardman. So when the race came to Alpe d’Huez, up the famous “21 bends”, we were there to see what all the fuss was about.
Fresh snow just keeps on falling in Les Deux Alpes and the town looks much better for it. Conditions up on the hill are great. Although visability is pretty poor at the moment more snow keeeps on falling and when the skies do clear we are in for some great days on the hill.
Meet Harvey, 2alpesnet.com's new video snow reporter. Bringer of glad tidings, Harvey has news of fresh snowfall, good skiing and boarding on the glacier. What's more there is more snow to come.
Vickie is at the bottom of Village as high winds have closed a few of the lifts. Snow conditions on the hill continue to be excellent and when the skies clear again good times will be had by all.

These guys are making the most of the lack of snow low down in Venosc to test out the trails down there.. well why not!? Looks like great fun to us, and with the summer season not officially starting until 21st June it would be rude not to dust the bikes off!
Climbing mountains is great fun, but not as much fun as it looks like these guys were having when they jumped off the Doigt de Dieu on the southern slopes of the edges of the Meije, and flew back down to earth...!

Every year, when the lifts open, I rush excitedly to the top of the hill, strap into my board and set off for the first run of the new season. The cold, clear air in my nose and the sun on my cheeks I can't keep the smile off my face as the fresh snow creaks under my board. The whole day lies ahead from first lifts to last call. Or it would if I wasn't sweating, panting and massaging the cramp out of my calves at the end of the first run.

Mid morning to afternoon is the best time to get out skiing this week, either in La Grave or in Les 2 Alpes.

It's looking likely that we're going to have a mixed bag of weather this week, with snow clouds and sunshine mixed in.
Snow depths are currently around 40cm on the lower slopes with 160cm at the top of the glacier in 2 Alpes.
