The events calendar in the Southern Alps is already looking pretty full and neither of the resorts are officially open yet. Alpe d'huez is, as ever, popular with cyclists wanting to tackle the legendary "21 bends" and Les Deux Alpes has unprecedented levels of snow on it's glacier.

I'll be back at the beginning of July with weekly updates on life in both resorts.

In winter the resort is host to a number of international festivals and skiing events. The Rise Festival just before Christmas features big name bands and DJs, while other big winter events include the Mad Snow Race in January. In the summer, snow camps and freestyle ski competitions take place on the glacier, while the legendary mountain bike race, the Mountain of Hell, takes place at the end of June.
