Hotel Guide to Les 2 Alpes

Chalets and apartments are usually the most popular accommodation options when it comes to ski holidays. They tend to offer more room, more flexibility in terms of catering and, sometimes, better prices. However, hotels are also a great choice for those visiting Les 2 Alpes, especially when you're not coming for a full week.

Why book a hotel room instead of a chalet or an apartment in Les 2 Alpes?
If you aren't planning on a full week ski holiday, hotels can offer much more flexibility on dates, plus many can't be beaten in terms of extended services and facilities such as gourmet restaurants, spas, swimming pools, fitness rooms, tennis courts, bike and/or ski hire, flexible catering options... the choices are endless. And even though some apartment and chalet companies have recently made their booking requirements more flexible, the reality is that many can only be booked for six or seven days, especially in peak season.

Hotels in Les 2 Alpes tend to be small, family-run establishments rather than the big hotel chains so often found in other resorts. This means that there are no five-star hotels in the area. However, there's one four-star hotel here that offers luxury facilities worthy of a five-star establishment.

Chalet Hotel Mounier
The four-star Chalet Hotel Mounier is one of the oldest buildings in Les 2 Alpes and has been run as a hotel by the Mounier family since 1933. It offers comfortable rooms, mountain views across the Veneon Valley and its own spa and indoor pool. The hotel is known for its top-class restaurant where the chef and his team produce some of the best food in resort – unsurprisingly, it has been awarded one Michelin star.

Les 2 Alpes has a good selection of aparthotels (apartment buildings with hotel facilities) that are great for groups or families sharing accommodation. Many of these apartments can accommodate small groups and, for larger parties, you can rent more than one.

Le Jandri
Located at the entrance of Les 2 Alpes, Residence Le Jandri offers good value accommodation near the ski lifts leading to the glacier. There are four-person studios on offer here so, if you're a large group you can book more than one.

Most hotels in Les 2 Alpes are more than happy to welcome young children and many of them offer family rooms. However, there are many other things to consider, such as distance to the pistes, amenities and services within the hotel and facilities in the neighbouring area.

Our top family-friendly hotels in Les 2 Alpes
This is where we'd book a room if we were travelling with young children.

1. Hotel de la Valentin
   Hotel de la Valentin, tucked away off the main road and close to the Belle Etoile lift, offers a supervised evening kids club during school holidays over Christmas, as well as February and Easter. Its quiet off-road location and convenient piste access make it perfect for families.
   
2. Hotel Les Deux Alpes 1800
   Offering good value for money, the Hotel Les Deux Alpes 1800 is a four-star establishment offering half-board and all-inclusive accommodation. Especially popular among families, it has the added bonus of stunning views over the Muzelle and easy access to the Village chairlift.
   
3. Villages Club du Soleil Deux Alpes
   Villages Club du Soleil Deux Alpes in the Village at 1800, is a great spot for families with its all-inclusive offer including creche facilities and off-snow activities for youngsters of all ages. They'll also be able to take care if everything, from ski passes to ski lessons and ski hire.

There are plenty of cheap hotels in Les 2 Alpes offering decent quality rooms at reasonable prices. Many are located in the resort centre, making them a good place to base yourself on your mountain biking or ski holiday while saving some money at the same time.

Best-value hotels in Les 2 Alpes
In our opinion, these three hotels offer the most bang for your buck.

1. Hotel La Meije
   Boasting a privileged location at the foot of the slopes, the two-star Hotel La Meije offers affordable accommodation with ski-to-door access. Buffet breakfast, a lounge bar with a log fire and a large terrace make this a great place for anyone searching for a good-value central hotel.
   
2. Hotel Les Lutins
   This bright and cheerful budget hotel also offers an unbeatable location, only 50m from the slopes. Fans of good après-ski will be at home here – just roll downstairs to the hotel’s bar, popular with locals and visitors alike.
   
3. The People Hostel
   Les Deux Alpes' only hostel also boasts ski-in and ski-out access. Part of a small chain with establishments in Paris, Lyon or Marseille, The People Hostel has private double rooms as well as shared rooms with four to eight beds, family rooms accommodating up to six people and private dorms. They all feature private bathrooms. their modern common areas include a lounge bar, ski room and restaurant.

Almost all of the hotels in the Les 2 Alpes area boast easy access to the pistes and ski lifts, either sitting right next to the foot of the slopes or just a short trip away by one of the free local buses.

If we were to choose, these would be our favourite hotels in Les 2 Alpes with ski-to-door access.

1. Hotel Souleil'Or
   Three-star Souleil’Or Hotel has a perfect location right next to the Belle Etoile chairlift for speedy access into the main ski area and the beginner area at Cretes. Come back to the sunny terrace for lunch and relax in the spa at the end of a day’s skiing.
   
2. Hotel Les Melezes
   South-facing, three-star Hotel Les Melezes, right next to the Viking drag lift, is an ideal spot to keep tabs on your beginners while relaxing over lunch on the sunny terrace. Family-run since 1968, the Melezes offers the perfect on-piste location.
   
3. Hotel Côte Brune
   Côte Brune Hotel, at the other end of town, is a popular après ski spot as well as a comfortable three-star hotel, thanks to its Umbrella Bar at the foot of the slopes and sunny ski-in and ski-out terrace. Traditional chalet décor and an in-house spa make this a relaxing and cosy place to stay.
