For the past four winters, Rise Festival has brought high-altitude partying to Les Deux Alpes before Christmas. This year promises to be no exception. Only a few tickets are left for the six-day event which begins on December 15th.

Previous years’ festivals have seen a host of big-name acts on the outdoor main stage and indoor arena. Craig David, Sigma, Artful Dodger, So Solid Crew, Miss Dynamite and Clean Bandit are just a few of those to have played. Up and coming acts have appeared alongside established artists. For many, this is the true start of the season. It marks the first big party of the winter after a relatively quiet opening fortnight.

This year’s headline acts include Annie Mac, Camelphat and legendary reggae DJ David Rodigan. As always, there will be DJ sets on the mountain each afternoon. Big nights follow on at the Alpine Stage or the Rise Arena. Not to forget the bars and clubs of Les Deux Alpes which will be getting in on the action with warm-up sets and after parties.

Alongside the music, this year there is more emphasis on the adventure and wellbeing side of things. The secret adventure parties will be back as will a long list of activities to try out. From learning freestyle at the Rise Games to alpine yoga, snowmobiling, husky sledding or paragliding, festival-goers have plenty to keep them entertained. Food and drink lovers are well catered for too. There is cheese tasting, meals at Rise Lodge and an eight-course taster menu on offer.

Les Deux Alpes before Christmas

Rise Festival is always held the week before the Christmas holidays, so you will be among the first skiers of the winter in the resort. This means quiet pistes and a buzzing party atmosphere. And, of course, the bragging rights of getting a trip to the snow before any of your friends. Les Deux Alpes opens for snowsports on December 1st and Rise-goers will be there for the third week of the season. Glacier skiing at over 3000 metres and state-of-the-art snowmaking guarantee good early season skiing conditions compared to other Alpine resorts.

Where to stay

Les Deux Alpes accommodation ranges from the upmarket Chalet Mounier with its Michelin-starred restaurant, to budget apartments and the brand new People’s Hostel. There are hotels, apartments and chalets to suit all budgets and group sizes. If you want to keep things simple, you can book a Rise Festival package with accommodation, ski pass and Rise entry. The equipment hire and ski school can be booked as add-ons at the same time.

How to book

Head over to the Rise Festival web page to book tickets. The current price is £259 for festival entry and six-day ski pass. Considering that the ski pass alone costs €230, this is a great deal. Three-day flexi passes are also available for £149, or £209 with equipment hire. These passes give you a ski pass and festival entry valid for any three days between December 16th and 22nd. As mentioned above, three-day and six-day packages can be booked with accommodation, ski pass and festival entry, plus lessons or equipment hire if needed.

How to get there

Alp Venture Airport Transfers, Alpe d'Huez

Travel is not included. You can book a seat on the Rise coach service or make your own way to Les Deux Alpes. Fly to Grenoble, Lyon or Geneva. Chambery and Turin are also possibilities. Booking a transfer is the easiest way to get here from the airport. Public buses are also available if you change at Grenoble bus station. You could also hire a car from the airport, or even drive the whole way if you fancy a road trip. Count on around ten hours driving time from Calais.
