Snow report, 20 February 2025

featured in Snow Report Author Caro Blackwell, Destination Editor Updated

Over the past week, Les 2 Alpes has experienced predominantly dry weather, with no snowfall recorded. The absence of fresh snow, combined with milder daytime temperatures which are above average for this time of the season, have led to a freeze-thaw cycle affecting the lower slopes. This has led to firmer conditions in the mornings and softer snow in the afternoons. The higher slopes have maintained better snow quality due to consistently colder temperatures.

What’s happening now

Today, the resort is enjoying fair weather with sunny intervals. Temperatures on the mountain vary from a low of -7°C at the summit to a high of +8°C in the valley. The freezing level is approximately 2,500 metres, ensuring that higher elevations preserve their snow cover. Winds are only light. The avalanche risk is currently moderate, rated between 2 to 3 out of 5, with extra caution needed around the colder, shady and north, north west and north east facing slopes.

What’s coming up in Les 2 Alpes

Looking ahead, the weather is expected to remain stable with no significant snowfall anticipated in the next few days. Friday and Saturday are forecast to be cloudy and overcast with mountain temperatures ranging from -9°C at the summit up to +5°C down in the valley. The moderate breeze Friday and Saturday is from a fohn wind which is bringing the mild conditions.

There maybe very light precipitation on Saturday afternoon until Sunday morning. The freezing level will fluctuate between 1,900 and 2,200 metres for the next few days.
Tuesday is the earliest we can expect to see any snow and this should continue into Wednesday, over around 1,800m, but it’s a little earlier to predict this accurately.

Busy slopes this week

We’re into the school holiday time here in Les 2 Alpes, so the slopes are busier and we must be mindful to ski safely and be aware of those around us.

We’re never too experienced to remind ourselves of The ten FIS (International Ski Federation) rules of ski safety, please read here.

To make the most of your time on the slopes, here are a few tips:

  • To steer clear of the crowds, aim to ski during the off-peak times such as - early mornings, jump on the first lifts. Ski through lunchtime and enjoy a late lunch then ski again later in the afternoon when the mountain tends to be less busy.
  • Be mindful of the ski school hotspots, meeting times and places and plan your route accordingly. If you must ski in these areas, try to do so at different times than the ski schools meet.
  • Make the most of your half-term week by exploring all the additional activities and exciting fun events available in the resort.
  • Be sure to catch the torchlit descents and fireworks displays.
  • Always check the avalanche risk in resort and don't head off-piste if you don't have the up to date information, equipment and guidance.
