The Alps received a light but very welcome dusting of snow earlier this week. What seemed like a promising start, was confirmed by the deep blanket of fluffy powder that is now covering the mountains. Unfortunately, with the lifts closed in France, there's still not a lot many of us can do with it right now (although some of us will be touring up to enjoy the first fresh turns of the winter).
We still don't know exactly when the lifts will be able to operate this season in France, or when (and even if) international travel will be allowed this winter. Swiss resorts like Verbier, however, have been taking skiers and snowboarders up the slopes for a few weeks now, with a full opening scheduled this Saturday, December 5th.
Although the resorts are "open" and you could enjoy a white Christmas/New Year with a range of other mountain sports, the lifts are currently not allowed to operate. The French authorities are discussing an opening of the lifts early in the new year, and the season will hopefully be fairly normal from then on. We are expecting a further official announcement on the 11th December. With the easing of confinements, reduced caseloads, roll out of vaccinations and shortened quarantines on the horizon, it will becoming easier to travel as well.
Our ability to report on the snow conditions will be slightly limited this season, depending on where/how we can deploy our powder hounds. In these difficult times, we'd like to thank you for your continued support and, to those of you who book via our sites and make it over, an even bigger thanks!
Take care of yourselves and we very much hope to see you on the pistes soon.
